Many toys contain synthetic chemicals which can have negative effects on children's health. Carcinogenic formaldehyde is often found in glued wood puzzles, highly toxic flame retardants are found in cuddly toys. Even toys as innocent looking as bathing ducks may contain chemicals like PVC and hazardous substances as phthalates.

To raise awareness on this issue WECF- Women in Europe for a Common Future, a network of a hundred women's and environmental organisations – handed out toxic free toys to young parents in Utrecht during Sustainability Day.
