NGOs prepare for Belgrade Ministers Conference "Environment for Europe"

75 organisations participate
More than 75 NGOs from the entire EU and EECCA region came to Brussels. European ECO Forum organised a strategy meeting in Brussels on 1-3 of March, 2007. The meeting focussed on preparations for the 6th Ministerial Conference "Environment for Europe" (10-12 October 2007, Belgrade, Serbia).

The Conference was organised by the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) on behalf of the European ECO-Forum with the support of Eco-Accord Moscow and WECF Netherlands, and finanical support of the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment of the Netherlands and Federal Public Service Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment of Belgium.

The results of the meeting are:
  • An evaluation of the implementation of decisions made in the framework of the Environment for Europe process since 1991 till now
  • Preparation for the NGO pre-conference on biodiversity and sustainable production and consumption in Belgrade (8-9 October 2007)
  • Preparation of the special session (round-table) with Ministers in Belgrade on biodiversity
  • A draft NGO recommendation statement for the Ministerial Conference in Belgrade. 
The Draft Recommendations are being finalized by the Eco-Forum drafting group, and will focus on:
  • The achievements and future of the Environment for Europe process
  • Values and Education for Sustainable Development
  • Changing productiong and consumption patters - particularly in the areas of energy
  • Biodiversity decline and the 2010 countdown
  • The future of the EECCA strategy and EAP
