Upcoming events: Training on onsite ecological waste water and sanitation

WECF organises seminars in Romania (29-30 March) and Bulgaria (12-13 April)

WECF organises together with partners from Romania, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, training courses on onsite ecological waste water and sanitaiton systems.

The seminars will bring together policy makers, local authorities, school inspectorates and NGOs to look at barriers and catalysts for onsite ecological waste water and sanitation systems for schools in Romania and Bulgaria.

The Netherlands company for sanitation equipment CORAM will present the market study on the potential for production of dry urine diverting toilets in Romania and Bulgaria.

The Netherlands water company STOWA will present why they promote urine diversion as a way of reducing the nutrient load.

The Swedish Institute for Epedimeology will present its work with the World Health Organisation on setting standards and guidelines for reuse of urine and waste-water in agriculture.

The ecosan seminar are organised in cooperation with WECF, the Device Water and Soil (Eenheid Water en Bodem" of the Dutch province Overijssel, and the county Teleorman, and the local partner EfE in Bulgaria.

Both seminars are organised in the scope of the ongoing project ECOSAN ROMANIA & BULGARIA
"Developing local production of decentralized ecological waste water and sanitation equipment for Romania and Bulgaria", with support of the Dutch AQUA for All (A4A) and KIWA.

Goal of the project
  • Establish the potential for producing ceramic dry urine diverting toilet seats and slabs in Bulgaria and Romania and
  • Interest potential entrepreneurs in starting ceramic dry u.d. toilet seat and slab production.
Scope and Purpose
The principles of ecological sanitation (ecosan), international experiences on ecosan, regulations and guidelines on the a safe use of ecosan will be presented and discussed.

The results of a study on the local market of sanitation equipment and identification of possible producers of urine diverting toilets in the project area will be presented.

In addition to the WECF workshops, Mihai Emanscu Trust (MET) and GTZ, are organising a workshop in Shigisoara from 27-28 of March 2007 on onsite ecological sanitation systems. (see below)
