Aarhus Convention

Reporting cycle for the 3rd Meeting of the Parties – Public Consulation between May and August 2007.

07.06.2007 |Anke Stock

The 3rd Meeting of the Parties is due to take place from June 8-13, 2008 in Riga/Latvia. According to article 5 (4) of the Convention many countries are obliged to submit national reports on the state of the environment for consideration by the Meeting of the Parties.

In order to guarantee a proper reporting process the consultation of the public at national level is a very important aspect. According to the Guidance on Reporting Requirements prepared by the Compliance Committee a timeline for the preparation of the reports was suggested. According to this timeline national consultation on the content of the report should take place between mid-May and mid-August 2007.

Therefore we would like to call upon our network and all NGOs involved in the implementation of the Aarhus Convention at national level to get involved in the national consultation process and to ask their governments about their plans regarding their national reports and to provide them with input.
