EU Thematic strategy on sustainable use of pesticides launched

Women in Europe welcome the Thematic Strategy but is in doubt whether it can really achieve the much needed transition towards a sustainable use of pesticides in the EU. The obvious lack of clear targets such as the long-term substitution of the most hazardous pesticides and timetables are missing from the strategy. "It is not necessarily encouraging to see that the Commission already in such an early phase has demonstrated a lack of vision and ambition concerning the use of pesticides in the EU", says WECF policy coordinator Daniela Rosche

Given that pesticides are well researched and their hazardousness for women and future generations proven beyond any reasonable doubt, it is according to WECF questionable why the Commission is not more committed to protecting us by adopting a strong piece of legislation that has the chance to deliver.
