Highlighting the close interrelations between Gender and Environment

WECF holds Workshop on “Women, Gender and the Environment” for US Students at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands

07.10.2015 |

On 28 September Margriet Samwel (expert on water) and Anke Stock (expert on gender and rights) held a workshop on gender and the environment for the class of Roxanne Ornelas (professor at Miami University/Ohio). The aim of the interactive workshop was to highlight the close interrelations between the issues of “gender” and of “environment”, and to create awareness amongst the participants coming from different educational backgrounds.

Several training materials from the  manual “Gender in Sustainable Development” were practiced. The students were also interested in
personal experiences of the two trainers, staff of WECF, gained during their work for the NGO network. Various presentations, inter alia on EWA project work on agriculture and income generation for women in Uganda, on mentoring programmes for women (e.g. IWE) and on international legal commitments, showed the entry points for gender in development cooperation and in sustainable development within the project implementation and the various levels of advocacy work.
