The Kyrgyz festival of the Issyk-Kul apricot “Kyzyl орук" took place for the third time last August. The Ton village in the Issyk-Kul region hosted the festival within the scope of WECF’s EWA programme. The aim of the festivities was to promote the sustainable development of the local capacity, to promote ecological and ethno-rural tourism in the southern Issyk-Kul region and to raise the prestige of the Issyk-Kul apricot.

The activities of the festival included master classes on fruit processing, a concert of local folklore, eagle shows and nomadic games. Participants of the events were local gardeners, farmers, artisans, representatives of CDWUU Ton, Jeti-Oguz districts and the Organic Movement Federation ‘Bio KG’ and stakeholders of apricot and other fruit processing. Also tourists from Kyrgyzstan itself, Kazakhstan, Russia, the United States of America, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Austria, Canada and Germany were present at the festival.

Sponsors and organizers of the festival were WECF, KAWS, Christensen Fund, the government of Ton village, CDWUU “Ton Kekilik Suu” and “Kol Bel Ayil Suu”.
