"Water Makes Money" sued for Libel by Veolia due to supposed accusations of corruption

Veolia, a French water service supplier is infringing on freedom of press by sueing the makers of the documentary "Water Makes Money"

The movie “Water Makes Money” has been released one and a half years ago across Europe. It documents the recent pressure to privatize water supply in the EU. Due to the wording, the movie is now sued for Libel.  Viola thus hopes to silence the revelations made in the movie.

The European Commission is trying to force all communities in the EU to privatize their water supply by law. This law is formulated within a steering committee with representatives of almost all private water-companies in the world. “Water Makes Money” is exactly depicting this interweaving of private and public sector in its many variations. The makers of the documentary call this interweaving as highly corrupt. The movie is now being sued, with Veolia hoping to outlaw and silence it. Since the situation and facts presented in the documentary cannot be argued against, the wording used in the movie is attacked by the water company. Veolia feels the accusation of corruption in regard of their pressure exerted to privatize water-supply through the steering committee is unjust and defaming.

Faced with up to 6-digit costs, the makers of the film are now calling for financial help. In a statement on their website, they raised awareness for the trial and its detrimental effect on the freedom of press. The film-makers still asses the current situation of the water-privatization-plans as structurally corrupt and want to distribute the documentary further.
