The Women's Major Group representatives at the preparatory session of the Commission for Sustainable Development Session 15, presented the following statements, and gave the following interventions in New York:

Energy is essential to meet most basic needs: cooking, boiling, lighting and heating. It is also a pre-requisite for good health, a reality that has largely been ignored. Women and children are largely the victims of this ignorance and no member of the household is free from the implication of Indoor Air Pollution. In this context the Women’s Major Group identifies the following priorities and actions.

On behalf of Women as a Major Group we call to your attention that the Report of the Secretary General on policy options and actions fails to capture women’s dual role as victims of climate change and key actors for the effective implementation of mitigation and adaptation measures.
