Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine are blocking the ban on chrysotil asbestos

Despite severe health effects.

07.12.2006 |Sonja Haider

The Rotterdam Convention is a multilateral environmental agreement designed to promote shared responsibility and co-operative efforts among parties in the international trade of certain hazardous chemicals, in order to protect human health and the environment from potential harm. More about the Rotterdam convention.

During the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties in Geneva this year a few countries blocked the incorporation of "Chrysotile Asbestos" in the Rotterdam Convention, despite the fact of proven severe health effects. Krygyzstan and Ukraine belong to this group of countries and we call upon our partners and the authorities in these countries to take action.
