UNFCCC, WECF and Genanet

A cooperation for strengthening women's participation in the UNFCCC process.

21.12.2005 |Ulrike Röhr

We set up a mailing list, aiming to provide information on European and UN energy and climate change policy for women's organisations across Europe, as well as to discuss gender aspects of policies, measures and mechanisms.

We identified entry points for gender issues in the UNFCCC, and other, processes and started building an international network of gender and climate change experts and researchers (together with the adviser Minu Hemmati). Currently we are in contact with the UNFCCC secretariat, IPCC, and the Women Environmental Ministers Network preparing our acitivities for COP11/MOP1 in December in Montreal/Canada.

Preparations are also underway at the national level in Germany, where the German Federal Ministry for the Environment is kindly hosting a strategy workshop on research and advocacy, August 10, 2005, aiming to identify next steps, research needs, and to elaborate a research agenda.

For the year 2006, we are planning and fundraising for activities in EECCA countries aiming to disseminate experiences and results of the gender and climate change activities to women's organisations and researchers and to increase their participation in the discussions.
