REACH voting card!

Vote for a STRONG REACH to protect our health and the environment!

15.11.2005 |Daniela Rosche

Vote for a STRONG REACH to protect our health and the environment!

In order to guarantee that the reform of Europe’s chemical policy will protect human health and the environment, while maintaining EU competitiveness, REACH must ensure that:

The most hazardous chemicals, once identified, will be phased out and replaced when suitable SAFER ALTERNATIVES are available:
+     Support compromise package on authorisation co-signed by PSE/ALDE/GREENS/GUE
-     Reject ITRE amendments on authorisation co-signed by members of PPE/PSE/ALDE

Today’s ignorance about the toxicity of thousands of chemicals comes to an end. Therefore, SUFFICIENT BASIC SAFETY INFORMATION must be made available for all chemicals, in order to identify dangerous chemicals and potential safer alternatives:
+     Support compromise package on registration co-signed by GREENS/GUE
-     Reject compromise package on registration co-signed by PPE/PSE/ALDE and further registration packages from PPE and from ITRE

A DUTY OF CARE for all chemical manufacturers and users makes them responsible for the safety of their products. REACH does not apply to the 70,000 chemicals produced/imported at less than 1 tonne per year. A duty of care provision would provide a basic safety net for these substances.
+     Support compromise package on duty of care co-signed by PSE/ALDE/GREENS/GUE

The public has the RIGHT TO KNOW and access to information about the safety of chemicals. Consumers should be able to find out about potentially harmful chemicals in the products they are using.
+     Support compromise package on access to information/transparency co-signed by PSE/ALDE/GREENS/GUE
