NGO strategy meeting on the EU Environment and Health Action Plan

The European Public Health Alliance Environment Network (EEN) and the Dutch Platform for Environment and Health co-organised an NGO strategy meeting in Egmond an Zee (The Netherlands) on 1 December 2004.

The meeting aimed to identify key actions proposed by WHO’s Children’s Environment and Health Action Plan for Europe (CEHAPE) and to recommend that they be taken forward within the EU Action Plan framework. It also looked at how the EU’s Action Plan can be implemented by examining areas such as biomonitoring, indicators, risk communication and indoor air quality. The results were presented to the EU member states and institutions at the Dutch Presidencyconference on December 2-3.

Sascha Gabizon, Director of WECF, gave a presentation on developing NGO action for implementation of the EU SCALE Action Plan and the BUDAPEST Children's Environmental Action Plan. Sascha Gabizon proposed to advocate for both legislative action e.g. on specific child-health legislation such as extending the pthtalate in toys ban to toys for children older than 3 years, and to develop demonstration projects with other partners, to show what concrete urgent actions can already be taken today.   Download the PPT here

A report from the NGO meeting is now available. Please find it below together with the programme, list of participants and presentations from the meeting on EEN's website www.env-health.org
