WECF and several of it's members participated and spoke at the WAVE conference in Nairobi. This time women environmentalists don't want to create a ripple, but a wave! The fact that opening-speaker and respect environmentalist Wangari Maathai had
just received the Nobel Price for Peace, brought additional energy and joy to the conference.

Svetlana Slesarenok, director of MAMA-86 Ukraine and oldest WECF member, gave a presentation on MAMA-86 initiatives to help poor women in Ukraine improve their economic, social, environmental and health situation. Download her presentation here (pdf.).

Sascha Gabizon, director of WECF, gave a presentation on women as the majority of the poor in West and East, how women and the poor are relatively more affected by environmental degradation, and examples of projects with poor women and the gender aspects of eliminating poverty among poor women.
