CAAW have an integrated approach to sustainable health in the Ferghana Valley. One of their goals is to secure sustainable water and sanitation services for rural communities. They have thereby introduced the concept of household ecological sanitation toilets to the Fergana Valley. Main advantages are: low construction cost, smell and fly free, easy maintenance, and use of urine as fertilizer. It also prevents the fresh water from the pollution.
Their work includes promoting the sustainable use of rural water resources and hygiene behavior changes. CAAW also works on the implementation of Eco toilets as a concept as a sustainable sanitation hygiene on the household level. By doing this they introduce the community to a healthy behavioral change. CAAW encourages advocacy of the citizen’s rights and responsibilities to safe water, hygiene and sanitation as well as establishing legally registered water committees.
CAAW's main components:
1. Village Water Committee development
2. Village Youth Parliament development
3. Hygiene Sanitation promotion
4. Construction of ECOSAN toilets targeting village families
5. Micro-Credit targeting women in project villages
