WECF Signs Appeal to Call on Governments and Corporations to Ban Hazardous Pesticides

Over 500+ organizations in 106 countries signed the appeal to replace HHPs with alternative methods of pest control

27.02.2016 |

More than 500+ organizations in 106 countries signed PAN International’s appeal to call on governments and corporations to take concrete steps towards a phase-out and ban of Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs), to be replaced with safe, sustainable and ecological alternative methods of pest control.

Decades of experience has shown that, despite numerous “safe use” programmes, the safe use of HHPs is not possible. People, farm animals, wildlife and the environment continue to suffer considerable harm from HHPs. After years of failure which have seen millions of deaths from pesticides worldwide, new policies are needed to stop pesticide poisonings and illness. A phase-out and ban of HHPs, along with new policies to support more sustainable alternatives, can make a change towards a healthy and sustainable world for all.

The appeal is available in English, French, German and Spanish.
