WECF Signs Letter to EU Commissioner for Ban of Two Cancer-Inducing Pesticides

World Health Organization warns Glyphosate and Malathion can potentially cause cancer

07.04.2015 |

WHO’s cancer agency IARC has declared the pesticides Glyplosate and Malathion a “probable human carcinogen”. The IARC reached its decision recently based on the view of 17 experts from 11 countries, who met in Lyon, France, to assess the carcinogenicity of 5 organophosphate pesticides. Based on this assessment, PAN Europe argues in a letter to EU health commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis that Glyphosate and Malathion should be taken off the market as a precautionary measure to protect workers, consumers, bystanders and residents against the risks of these chemicals. WECF welcomes this initiative, so we signed the letter as well.
