Research finds link between chemicals and breast cancer

Chemicals in our daily environment pose threat to women's health

19.05.2014 |

A study by the Silent Spring Institute and the Harvard School of Public Health highlights the dangers of 17 types of chemicals for women with regards to breast cancer, publishing a “road map” in order to promote targeted prevention. The identified chemicals are highly prevalent in our daily environment – burned food, gasoline fumes, cleaning agents, flame retardants, etc. – and therefore pose a substantial risk. These substances were found to have a significant carcinogenic effect on laboratory animals and researchers are confident the risks are similar for people.

The findings include a comprehensive outline of preventive methods: avoiding gasoline fumes, opening windows while cooking, not buying furniture containing polyurethane foam and flame retardants and more.
