59th Congress of the German Society for Gyneacology and Obstetrics great opportunity for WECF to build EDC awareness

The Congress was great opportunity for WECF to build EDC awareness as the mission of the DGGG is to provide up to date information to its 7000 members on issues concerning the area of gyneacology and obstetrics

From the 9th to the 12th of October 2012, WECF participated in the annual German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGGG) Congress. The 59th Congress of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics was a great opportunity for WECF to build EDC awareness as the mission of the DGGG is to provide up to date information to its 7000 members on issues concerning the area of gyneacology and obstetrics.

WECF contributed to this mission by providing awareness on how Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) effect pregnant women’s and their foetus’s health, and how WECF addresses these issues through her projects.

This was WECF’s first DGGG Congress, with plans to participate in future DGGG Congresses as well. Through interactions with industries, doctors, and other NGOs, it became apparent how new the EDC topic is, and how important our presence was at this Congress to enlighten current women health professionals. Many congress participants were interested in our message, and expressed their patients concerns for the well-being of their children and their own health. The Project Nesting Guide Booklets, in addition to the Breast Cancer and Girl Disrupted publications, were widely disseminated.

The amount of awareness on diseases possibly caused by EDCs, such as breast cancer, was an issue of concern for WECF. It showed us how the majority of the medical world is still unaware of the possibility that negative health effects are caused by products and substances that are inundated in people’s lives. This issue reaffirms WECF’s mission to disseminate new information about EDCs to the public.

The 59th Congress of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics was a great opportunity to build EDC awareness, and WECF is looking forward to participating in the 60th next year.
