The French Ambassador for Sustainable Development, Jean-Pierre Thebault, chaired a meeting on gender and women priorities for Rio+20 at the Foreign Ministry in Paris, on 7 of November.

WECF director Sascha Gabizon presented the Women's major group global position for Rio+20, focusing on women's rights and on thematic priorities such as addressing "land grabbing" and "nuclear risks".

Presentation can be downloaded here:

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) presented their 2011 report which concludes that agricultural policies should focus on gender equality, giving women access to land and resources, as this would greatly increase food security. UN WOMEN is preparing a high level women's symposium in Rio, with heads of state, to bring a strong focus on gender into the negotiations. Yveline Nicolas of the French Women Rio+20 contact group, commented on the challenges of going beyond declarations, to allocating resources to women and gender equality measures.
