Parma: WECF coordinator for environmental NGOs at 5th Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, Parma, 10-12 March 2010

The preparations for the next WHO Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health are fully underway. Here is a letter to the NGO's concerned.

10.02.2010 |Olivia Radu

From 10 to 12 March , Environment and Health Ministers from the 53 WHO Europe countries will meet in Parma, Italy to discuss progress on the Environment and Health process in Europe; inequalities in environment and health and the health effects of climate change. (For further information see the WHO website )

WECF, together with European EcoForum, HEAL and ISDE Austria, has been closely involved in this process. During the Parma Ministerial, on the 11 of March, we will be presenting the winners of our 2nd Awards Competition on good projects for Children’s Environmental Health (see WEBLINK). WECF will also host a side event together with UNDP on "the Right to School Sanitation" on Wednesday 10th of March.  HEAL and the CEHAPE Youth Network will host a side event to present good projects on Environment and Health.

We are pleased to inform you that WECF/Eco Forum will be coordinating the environmental NGO delegation for the Parma Ministerial (limited number of places), and we have a rotating observer delegation of 5 places in the conference hall.  HEAL will be coordinating the health NGO delegation from their side. WECF and HEAL will hold a pre-conference strategy meeting in the conference venue on the evening prior to the Ministerial, March 9 from 17.00 -19.00.

Unfortunately, NGOs have not been provided funding so participants will need to cover travel and accommodation costs themselves. WECF and HEAL have reserved a small amount from their own resources to contribute up to 50% of travel costs for upto 10 participants, in particular from non EU countries. Nominations can be send to olivia.radu@wecf.eu (WECF) or anne@env-health.org (HEAL). We would very much welcome your involvement in the Parma Ministerial, to join this decisive moment for the Environment and Health process in Europe! Its outcomes will also influence the discussions already underway on a second EU Environment and Health Action Plan (EHAP).
