Countries: Afghanistan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Tajikistan, Uganda
Donors: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands
Duration: 01/2012 - 12/2015

The overall goal of the  "Empower Women – Benefit (for) All" (EWA) programme is to contribute to the economic and political empowerment of women from low-income rural and peri-urban regions in six developing countries (Afghanistan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Tajikistan, Uganda).

The EWA programme is supported by the "Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women" (FLOW), which is a fund that has been set up by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands to improve the position of women and girls in developing countries. Further, the programme builds on WECF’s multi-annual approach 2010 - 2015, which aims at contributing to achieving the Millennium Development Goals 1 (eradicate extreme poverty and hunger), 3 (promote gender equality and empower women) and 7 (ensure environmental sustainability).

The expected results of the EWA programme will be that 12,000 women and men will have improved affordable access to livelihood resources, 14,900 women and men will have increased economic independency and increased incomes by >50%, 5,000 women in 20 low income rural communities will have had access to credit, in 4 countries women’s participation in local decision making structures will have improved by 30% and 10 million people will be aware of the benefits of women’s economic and political empowerment by the end of 2015.
